a working artist statement ish…

i write for release and revelation, to push the heavy off, to stay free.

i’m inspired by the various non-monolithic interior lives of Black women.

i’m also inspired by being misunderstood, being spicy in the neuro regions and also by the air around acapellas, the emotional waves from rhythm and repetition

and for certain by art , design, nature

and of course by community codes and vernacular, unmarked roads, never ending fields, country folk.

i write plays like cooking  (I don’t cook) not measuring but by feel,  taste…intuition.

i acquire flavors, pour over words, syllables, allow them to simmer, marinate ultimately serving up full worlds and imaginings nuff for all.

I write by listening, observing, questioning, not being satisfied, falling into the groove, into space, laughing, tripping into my own silly, digging toes into earth, being alone …prayer

i write to share truth-mine and others. I write to reflect my most authentic self.

I write to poke fun, to dissect to stir things within all of us to do better for ourselves and in turn to do better for humanity.
